Project Breakdown: Heavy Vehicle COF site Upgrade with EquipSpecs and Ryme Worldwide

Project Overview

EquipSpecs recently completed a comprehensive equipment upgrade at a high-traffic COF site, enhancing the facility’s heavy vehicle inspection capabilities with advanced equipment from Ryme Worldwide.

The goal was to replace aging brake testing equipment with a modern, compliant, and high-performance solution capable of meeting the evolving needs of the heavy transport industry — and we delivered exactly that.

Scope of Work

The upgrade was completed in four key stages:

  • Removal of Existing Equipment
Our team safely decommissioned and removed the outdated brake testing system, clearing the space for new infrastructure and equipment.
  • Civil Works and Site Preparation
Modifications to the concrete floor and subframe installation were carried out to accommodate Ryme Worldwide’s rising bed system and roller brake tester.
  • Installation and Commissioning
We installed the Ryme Worldwide FRU 4 Universal Brake Tester, a best-in-class solution for vehicles with a maximum axle load of up to 20 tonnes per axle.
  • Operational Handover and Return to Service
The site returned to full inspection capacity with minimal downtime. Staff were trained on the new equipment and began inspecting vehicles shortly after commissioning.

Equipment Installed

Ryme FRU 4 Universal Brake Tester

This roller brake tester is used to perform a complete assessment of the condition of the braking system of a light or heavy vehicle up to 20 T per axle.

Two welded steel frames, one for each wheel on the same axle, house rollers that ensure adequate adhesion for a successful test. Powerful motors drive the rollers and force cells report the braking performance continuously during the test.

The most significant information obtained is:

  • Brake force measurement for manual and pedal brakes
  • Rolling resistance
  • Measurement of ovality and weight (optional)
  • Pedal effort (hand clamp and pedometer) optional*
  • Braking performance

Load Simulation with Rising Bed System

The rising bed system allows for full load simulation to make a direct maximum brake reading. This ensures that braking performance is assessed under realistic operating conditions and improves repeatability across inspections.

Operational Benefits

  • Easy-to-use Graphics
Real-time graphics are all provided on the one page, no need to toggle in and out between different pages.
  • Improved Workshop Efficiency
Ryme Worldwide software allows you to view all test results without having to move the vehicle off the roller set.
  • Reduced Downtime
Our experienced team ensured a fast turnaround with minimal impact to daily operations.
  • Future-Proof Compliance
Equipment fully aligns with evolving safety regulations and standards.

Conclusion

This project demonstrates EquipSpecs’ commitment to delivering future-ready workshop solutions that support safety, compliance, and operational excellence in the heavy vehicle industry.

Whether you’re operating a COF site, fleet maintenance depot, or heavy vehicle testing facility, upgrading to Ryme Worldwide’s technology could significantly enhance your testing capability and workshop efficiency.
